Too lazy to post? Try a curation template

Your expertise? Having good taste

Let’s face it, we don’t always have time and/or inspiration to write one of those long-form LinkedIn posts.

Pictured: You, at 4:59 pm, and you still haven't posted.

Sometimes we need to throw together a quick one…

… BUT, we don’t want to skimp on value.

I have just the template for this occasion.

Today I’m introducing a tried and true writer’s block emergency parachute of a post.

I’m talking about the curation post.

She comes in many forms, but the gist is this — you provide your audience with a round-up of great resources from other creators.

It could be courses, it could be blog posts.

It could be a list of the creators themselves. People you think your audience should be aware of.

Easy, right? Seems like cheating, right?

But don’t let its simplicity fool you — the curation post is doing more than just saving you in a pinch.

When played right, the curation post is as good a piece of thought leadership as any.

You see, thought leadership isn’t just about having a bold take or a fresh insight.

It’s also about taste.

The curation post makes you a tastemaker.

The curation post WILL make Selena Gomez your loyal fan!*

Not only are you a smart cookie, you take your cues from other smart cookies.

Birds of a feather, and all that.

And also, if you tag other creators in your curation post?

The chances of getting their attention, and the attention of their audience, is higher than… well, not doing a curation post.

So.

Next time you’re in a pinch, skip the selfies and do a curation post instead.

(Some housekeeping, and then I’ll show you how.)

I’m Dusten, and I co-run a brand and content strategy agency called Zenpost.

This is Cool Story, where I summon my decade+ of content expertise to teach you how to write like LinkedIn’s top voices.

Each week, I tear down a post from one of LinkedIn’s most powerful personal brands, show you how it’s done, and give you a content template you can stick in your swipe file.

Let’s get to it!

This week’s post

Roxana Irimia is the Head of Marketing at lempire, and a bonafide LinkedIn marketing guru with 40,000+ followers.

She’s a Top Content Marketing Voice on LinkedIn. And you’re going to understand why after we study this post:

Ah, the curation post. Simple, yet effective!

Here’s why it works:

No mysteries to decode here.

  • Write a solid hook that taps into a desire of your ideal customer

  • Create a resource rundown. You can do a simple list like this, or you can “hook stack” like Matt Gray.

  • Tag the creators to increase engagement potential!

Steal the template:

Here’s how to [achieve desired outcome] without [annoying hindrance]:

[new strategy/resource/tool] will [achieve desired outcome] in [short time frame]:

[see more line]

[Item 1] from [tag creator]
[brief description of value to audience - optional]
[transition hook - optional]

[Repeat for as many items as desired, but 5-10 is good]

In summation, do [repeat strategy/resource/tool]

You’ll [bold promise about desired outcome]

Now get out there, and get curatin’!

See you next Tuesday.

Cool Story is FREE, but I do have a BIG ask…

I’m trying to grow the newsletter this year, so if you think others in your networks would benefit from Cool Story, please share it with them.

TWO more QUICK things:

  • Let’s make sure we’re connected on LinkedIn, where I share tips on content and strategy every day. Hit the bell to never miss a post.

  • If you’re a fractional, founder, or consultant and you’re interested in investing in your personal brand, Zenpost can help. When you’re ready, let’s find a time to chat.

* Cool Story cannot and does not guarantee that the curation post will make Selena Gomez your loyal fan.
